The Air Max 1 Returns In 2023 With A Splash Of Green Perfect For Spring!

My Initial Impressions

As an Air Max 1 fan, I’ve been pleased to see all the new colorways of the silhouette that are releasing in 2023 and this pair is no exception. While I can appreciate the artistry of the more creative releases, as on “OG-head” I’m naturally drawn to the styles that share the color-blocking found on the originals.

With the addition of textured-leather around the mudguard and the choice of green used on this shoe, this was an instant hit in my book and one of the better offerings Nike will release for Spring.

The Quality

How is the Craftsmanship?

I’ve got to say that I’ve been impressed with Nike’s quality control lately when it comes to its retro runners. My past few pairs have arrived with no glaring issues when it comes to stitching, glue-stains, and overall construction.

I’ll give the Swoosh credit where it’s due, and they deserve an A+ for this pair.

what are the Materials like?

Suede: The suede upper is a rougher, more rigid variety than what is found on the “OG-specd” models. I’m not complaining about it, but some may not appreciate the feel. By no means is it premium, but it’s pretty on-par with what Nike has used on prior lifestyle Air Max 1 releases.

Breathable Mesh: The shoe’s mesh panels are pretty standard for what you’re likely to find on the silhouette. It’s functional and breathable, but isn’t necessarily plush or soft. Definitely not as soft as the mesh found on New Balance models like the 990v2.

Leather: The green leather found on the mudguard and swoosh are of the same texture and are decent in my opinion. I’m not sure if I’d call it ‘premium’, but it’s a few steps above the ‘cheap’ stuff they use on budget-friendly offerings. I’ve felt better leather on similarly priced shoes from other brands, but this is Nike we’re talking about here, so I’m not expecting to be blown away.

How To Clean

Due to the delicate nature of this shoe’s materials, here are a few ‘suede-friendly’ products to consider copping if keeping your Air Max’s fresh is a top priority.

The Comfort

2023 Nike Air Max 1 “Mica Green”

How Comfortable Is The Air Max 1 “Mica Green”?

When it comes to comfort, we have to keep in mind that the cushioning tech in this shoe is over 30 years old. These don’t feel terrible, but they are showing their age.

The midsole is definitely on the firmer side, with not much bounce being felt with each step. If you’re a person that doesn’t prefer the super-soft cushioning systems of the modern era, the Air Max 1 may be a good option for you.

Can you wear these all-day casually? Definitely! However, there are more comfortable options in Nike’s retro-runner lineup like the Air Max 90, that just feel better all-around.

Fit and Sizing

2023 Nike Air Max 1 “Mica Green”

How Does The Air max 1 “Mica green” fit ?

The Air Max 1 “Mica Green” fits comfortably when going with your most common Nike size. I wouldn’t call it ‘roomy’, but it does seem to have a more generous toe-area in comparison to the ‘OG’ pairs such as the “Big Bubble” or “Anniversary” releases.

I personally have a slightly wider foot and prefer a more snug and secure fit when buying sneakers, so going with my usual size 12 works.

Under no circumstances would I recommend anyone going down a half-size in this shoe and those with narrow feet should stay going true-to-size. Wide-foot buyers may want to go a half-size up, considering Nike’s retro runners are notoriously narrow.
