Nike’s First Air Max Model Returns With A Nostalgic, Larger Visible Air Unit

My Initial Impressions

When Nike announced the upcoming release of the reworked version of the iconic, Air Max 1 on the SNKRS app last year, there was no question that these would jump to #1 on my list of cops for 2023.

Now that they’re finally here, I couldn’t be more pleased with the final product. There’s not much more Nike could’ve done to make these better, besides make them more readily available.

As far as I’m concerned, this is the best Air Max to ever release, and the inclusion of the “Big Bubble” cements this iteration as the best yet, when it comes down to comfort and nostalgia.

The Quality

How is the Craftsmanship?

You never know what you’re going to get from Nike these days, but I can’t complain with how my pair was constructed.

My pair came in immaculate condition, with no quality control issues on either shoe. The stitching was neat and every felt/suede panel was in pristine condition straight out of the box with no blemishes or stains anywhere.

From what I can tell, quality control was decent on this pair and I didn’t come across any posts on IG from disappointed buyers, which is always a good thing.

what are the Materials like?

Suede: The majority of the shoe is made of the suede/felt material that is customarily found on “OG” Air Max 1 models. It’s not premium, but harkens back to what was originally found on the shoe. Nothing to write home or complain about in my opinion.

Breathable Mesh: The shoe’s mesh panels are similar to the suede in that it’s on-par with that was found on the original release. The mesh panels provide the shoe with functional styling that adds lightweight breathability and comfort to the shoe.

Nylon: Nylon is familiar material found on Nike retro runners and also appears on the shoe’s tongue and sparingly on the upper. It has a classic, shiny look, and adds a subtle touch of visual interest to the shoe.

How To Clean

Due to the delicate nature of this shoe’s materials, here are a few ‘suede-friendly’ products to consider copping if keeping your Air Max’s fresh is a top priority.

The Comfort

How Comfortable Is The Air Max 1 “Big Bubble”?

Believe it or not, the “Big Bubble” included with this release is more than a marketing ploy and actually provides the shoe with a softer, bouncier ride than normal Air Max 1 models.

I’ve always felt that previous Air Max 1s releases weren’t as comfortable as the Air Max 90, but these provide a noticeable improvement that’s more comparable to the 90s.

Fit and Sizing

2023 Nike Air Max 1 “Big Bubble”

How Does The Air max 1 “Big Bubble” fit ?

The Air Max 1 “Big Bubble” fits snug when going with your most common Nike size, which may be problematic for those that have wide feet or prefer more room in the toe area of their sneakers.

I personally have a slightly wider foot and prefer a more snug and secure fit when buying sneakers, so going with my usual size 12 works, but I would have no problem going up to a 12.5.

Under no circumstances would I recommend anyone going down a half-size in this shoe. Those with narrow feet should stay going true-to-size.
