Sizing Tips

Nike Air Max 1 Sizing Guide

ALL SIZES ARE NOT CREATED EQUAL

I always like to preface my sizing suggestions by saying that there is no “perfect shoe size” but rather a “size range” that works best for most people when it comes to sneakers. For me, it’s the US11.5/12 size range that I consistently purchase regardless of brand or shoe silhouette.

As you continue reading, understand that this “size range” assumption will serve as the foundation of my suggestions, so enjoy and I hope this helps!

for those with Narrow Feet

Stay True-To-Size.

Since Nike shoes are traditionally narro, buying true to size will provide a rather comfortable fit for narrow footers. However, for those narrow footers that prefer a snug 1-to-1 fit, going down a half-size will be the better option and will also reduce toe-creasing as well.

for those with Wider Feet

Go True-To-Size Or Half-Size Up

Nike is notorious for creating narrow running shoes and the Air Max 1 is no exception. If you have wide feet, I would definitely consider going a half-size up if you prefer more room in the toe-area. Wide footers that prefer a sing fit can stay true-to-size but may feel a slight toe-crunch for a few wears until the shoe breaks in.

Nike’s Most Iconic Air Max!

The Air Max 1 is arguably the most impactful running shoe Nike has ever produced. Another Tinker Hatfield masterpiece, the AM1’s simplistic design aesthetic has undoubtedly helped it withstand the test of time and has cement itself as a timeless classic.

Originally released back in 1987, the Air Max 1 was Nike’s first shoe to feature the visible air unit. A pioneer in many ways, the Air Max 1 was not only a trendsetting silhouette for Nike, but for the entire sneaker industry as a whole. It challenged what a performance running shoe could be and ushered in a wave of sneakers that aimed to bring the “wow-factor” by pushing the boundaries of design while offering next-level comfort.

I’m a huge fan of the Air Max 1’s simplistic design and wearability. It’s easily my favorite Nike running shoe of all-time.

Fast forward to today and the Air Max 1 continues to be adored by new and seasoned sneakerheads alike. In addition, the silhouette has become the canvas for many stellar collaborations over the years that have taken the shoe to an entirely new level.

Air Max 1 FAQs

Should you buy the Air Max 1?

If you’re into the retro-runner aesthetic, but don’t want pay a premium price for a sneaker, then the Nike Air Max 1 should definitely be on your radar or wishlist for upcoming pickups.

Due to the age of its cushioning technology, the shoe is more of a lifestyle shoe in Nike’s footwear lineup and shouldn’t be considered a top-option for those looking for a performance running shoe. However, for those looking for a stylish yet comfy sport-casual sneaker, then it gets no better than the AM1 in my opinion.

What materials are used on the air max 1?

Most releases offer a upper primarily comprised of a mesh/suede combo that offers lightweight breathability, but some offerings do come dressed in smooth leather that gives the shoe a more “buttoned-up” vibe that appeals to the casual athleisure look.

How comfortable is the Air Max 1?

The shoe’s running and performance DNA makes it a great option for all-day wear, but don’t expect to be blown away by the shoe’s cushioning. The midsole tech is noticeably stiffer in comparison to most modern running or athleisure shoes made today, but that may even be more preferable for those who appreciate foot stability and need more support.

Conclusion

The Air Max 1 is a timeless retro runner with loads of style, nostalgia and practicality built in. However, it’s classic design more than makes up for it. Priced slightly above $100, it’s a decent value and won’t break the bank if you have to purchase on the resell market.
