2023 Nike Air Max 1 '86 “Big Bubble”

The Air Max 1 Returns In Its Original, Unreleased Form To Highlight Air Max Day 2023!

In 2022, Nike gave the public an early look at the Air Max 1 “Big Bubble” which will be released during Air Max Month. Although it has been almost 5 years since an Air Max 1 has released in this colorway, this is the first time the silhouette will come with a larger visible air unit.

Design, Materials, and Colorway

As far as the design, the sneaker’s upper will come comprised of a white mesh base contrasted by red and grey synthetic suede overlays that make up the mudguard and mid-foot panels. At first glance, this iteration looks identical to prior releases, however, there have been subtle changes made to the upper’s dimensions to accommodate the larger air unit.

Rounding out the design will be the white midsole and black outsole that complete the look. Lastly, the shoes will come housed in a custom box, that features a distressed look, along with a swoosh cutout and 4 circular cutouts that are a clear nod to the larger air unit.

Nike Air Max 1

Sneaker History

The Air Max 1 was designed by Nike designer Tinker Hatfield, who had previously worked on the Air Jordan line. Hatfield was inspired by the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, a building known for its exposed mechanical systems and bright colors. He incorporated these elements into the design of the Air Max 1, creating a sneaker that was both functional and stylish.

The Air Max 1 was initially released in three colorways: white/gray/red, white/gray/blue, and white/gray/black. The sneaker was an instant success, and Nike quickly released additional colorways to meet the demand.

Over the years, the Air Max 1 has become a favorite of sneakerheads and collectors around the world. It has been re-released in numerous colorways and collaborations with other brands and designers. Some of the most popular Air Max 1 collaborations include those with Atmos, Patta, and Parra.

One of the most notable features of the Air Max 1 is its visible Air Max unit, which is located in the heel of the shoe. This Air Max unit provides cushioning and support for the foot, making the shoe a favorite of runners and athletes. The Air Max technology has continued to evolve over the years, with Nike introducing new versions of the Air Max unit in its other sneakers.

In addition to its functional features, the Air Max 1 is also known for its stylish design. The sneaker has a sleek, minimalist silhouette that has become a signature of the Air Max line. Its simple design makes it easy to wear with a variety of outfits, from athletic wear to casual streetwear.

I’m conclusion, the Nike Air Max 1 is a classic sneaker that has stood the test of time. Its innovative Air Max technology, combined with its stylish design, has made it a favorite of athletes and sneaker enthusiasts alike. Whether you're looking for a comfortable and supportive running shoe or a stylish addition to your sneaker collection, the Air Max 1 is a must-have.
