2023 Air Jordan 14 Retro “Laney"

Jordan Brand Pays Homage To Michael Jordan’s High School With This Upcoming “Laney” Colorway For May 2023!

The 2023 Air Jordan 14 Retro "Laney" pays tribute to Michael Jordan's high school alma mater, Emsley A. Laney High School. The silhouette draws inspiration from Michael Jordan's early basketball journey, particularly his experience of being cut from the Varsity team at Laney High School.

Design, Colorway, & Materials

The sneaker features a dominant "Varsity Blue" nubuck upper, while black accents can be seen along the vamp, collar, and tongue construction. A touch of white is also present on the midsole, providing a subtle contrast to the striking blue hue. The Varsity Maze color is used to enhance the upper, tongue, and mini Jumpman logo located at the base of the lacing system.

The silhouette also features a mesh tongue and perforated side panels that enhance breathability. The "Laney" logo is prominently displayed on the tongue, while the number 23 is embroidered on the heel tab as a nod to MJ's iconic jersey number. The design is finished off with a black rubber outsole, sitting beneath a white foam midsole.

The Air Jordan 14

Sneaker History

The Air Jordan 14 is a basketball sneaker that was first released by Nike's Jordan Brand in 1998. Designed by Tinker Hatfield and Mark Smith, the Air Jordan 14 was inspired by Michael Jordan's love for Italian sports cars and features a sleek and aerodynamic design.

The Air Jordan 14 features a leather and nubuck upper, with a Jumpman logo on the tongue and "JORDAN" written in block letters on the heel. The shoe also includes a Phylon midsole and Zoom Air units in the heel and forefoot for cushioning and support.

One of the most notable features of the Air Jordan 14 is its unique sole design, which is modeled after the tread of a racing tire. The sole includes a herringbone pattern for traction and a shank plate for added support and stability.

The Air Jordan 14 was worn by Michael Jordan during the 1998 NBA Finals, when he led the Chicago Bulls to their sixth championship. Jordan also wore a special edition "Last Shot" colorway of the Air Jordan 14 during the Finals, which featured a black and red color scheme with gold accents.

In addition to its basketball heritage, the Air Jordan 14 has also been released in a variety of colorways and collaborations over the years. Some of the most popular include the "Ferrari" colorway, which features a red suede upper with yellow accents, and the "Indiglo" colorway, which features a black and white upper with green accents.

Overall, the Air Jordan 14 is a stylish and performance-driven basketball sneaker that continues to be popular among sneaker enthusiasts and basketball fans alike.
