Sizing Guide: How Do New Balance 574s Fit?

My Methodology

I would like to preface this sizing guide by saying that there is no “perfect shoe size” but rather a “size range” that works best for most people when it comes to sneakers. As you continue reading, understand that this “size range” assumption will serve as the foundation of my fit and sizing advice. Enjoy the article and I hope it helps!

HOW DO new balance 574s FIT?

The New Balance 574 fits comfortably at true-to-size.

Generally speaking, the New Balance 574 fits comfortably at true-to-size due to the roomy toe-box area of the shoe. For that reason, some may consider going a half-size down if they prefer a snug fit, but continue reading for more tips based on your individual foot type and/or fit preference.

Sizing Tips

New Balance 574 Fit and Sizing Guide

  • I usually wear a US11.5 in most New Balance shoes like the 990 models, but I prefer a US12 in the New Balance 574. At this size, the 574 fits comfortably and I could go down a half-size if I really wanted to, but opt for the additional room in the toe. The elevated height of the toe-box gives the New Balance 574 a chunky retro look, but it is also what makes this shoe fit more generously. Since I like to wear my shoes loosely laced, the US12 works perfectly. Another shoe with a similar fit profile is the New Balance 574 which also fits comfortably roomy when buying true-to-size.

  • If you consider yourself to have narrow feet, you may want to go down a half-size from your normal shoe size. Since this model of New Balance has a wider footbed and higher toe-box height than other models, you’ll most likely notice that the shoe feels roomy at true to size. If you happen to be in between sizes with a narrow fit, go with your smaller size.

  • Those with wider feet will most likely want to go a true-to-size or a half-size up from your most common size depending on how snug or roomy you prefer. Even if you prefer a snug fit, I would say go true to size as the 574 has a fairly wide footbed that won’t be too constricting.

Wide-footers that are in-between sizes, may even want to go up a half-size just to be safe, but true-to-size would most likely still work if your desired size is not available.

  • If you prefer a snug fit or like to wear your shoes loosely laced, then you should definitely go with your higher shoe size.

For example, I wear an 11.5/12, and to get a snug fit, I’d buy a 12. The 11.5 would be too snug.

  • If you prefer a roomy fit or like to wear your shoes tightly laced, then you can stay true-to-size, but only go up a half-size if you have wide feet and prefer a roomy fit.

In a pinch, you could get away with your normal size, but only if that’s your only option.

  • I’ve tried many New Balance models within the lifestyle and running category and the 574 can most accurately be compared to the New Balance 580 in terms of fit. They share a similar shape and offer the same as far as length and width are concerned.

New Balance 574 FAQs

Answers To Common Questions

  • The New Balance 574 is the perfect example of an athleisure shoe. It offers relatively good comfortability in terms of midsole cushioning but isn’t overly bouncy which makes it good for everyday wear.

There are shoes that may feel softer on feet, but the 574 offers a good mix of comfort and stability which may be more appealing to older buyers.

  • Most New Balance 574 releases offer an upper primarily comprised of rich panels of suede, mesh, and 3M accents. Occasionally, some models throw leather and synthetic panels in the mix for added visual interest.

  • If you’re rough on shoes, then cleaning shoes like the New Balance 574 can be a bit challenging and tricky due to the delicacy of the suede and mesh. Fortunately, RESHOEVN8R offers amazing products like the Dry Suede Kit and Essential Shoe Cleaning Kit that provide everything you need to keep the suede and mesh clean without ruining the nap or texture of the shoe for a reasonable price.

  • If you’re into the “dad shoe” aesthetic, value comfort, and getting a decent bang for your buck, then the New Balance 574 should definitely be on your radar or wishlist for upcoming pickups. At a retail price point below $100, there aren’t many shoes that offer the same level of quality, comfort, and practicality all in one affordable package.
