The Air Max 1 Returns In 2023 With A Splash Of Deep Royal Blue Perfect For Spring!

My Initial Impressions

Alright, let's get one thing straight: every time Nike drops something new, it's cool. But when they bring out a fresh Air Max 1? Man, that's next level for me! Might be a bold statement, but the Air Max 1 could be my favorite retro runner ever.

And, you know what's been awesome? Seeing all these new Air Max 1 releases popping up more and more these past few years. For someone who's a big fan of this classic, it's like being a kid in a candy store. Whether you've been rocking 'em since day one or you're just hopping on the Air Max 1 train, it's a good time to be into these kicks.

The Quality

2023 Nike Air Max 1 “Deep Royal”

How is the Craftsmanship?

Alright, can we take a moment to talk about how Nike's been handling their business lately? With their retro runners, they're truly on point in the quality department. My last few pairs? Practically flawless. No messy glue stains, no iffy stitching, just solid construction all around.

Gotta hand it to the Swoosh team – they're crushing it. I'm seriously vibing with this pair, and honestly, they deserve an A+ on the craftsmanship front for this one. Keep that momentum going, Nike!

what are the Materials like?

Suede: Okay, first up, let’s talk about that suede. If you’ve felt the “OG-spec'd” models, then you know what you’re getting here. It's the same deal. It's decent—nothing to write home about, but also nothing to really nitpick over. Some folks might find it a bit off, especially if they're expecting some luxe feel, but honestly, it's what I've come to expect from Nike and their Air Max 1s. It's solid.

Breathable Mesh: Moving on to the mesh panels – they're pretty much what you’d expect when you pick up an Air Max 1. They do their job, keeping your feet from feeling like they're in a sauna. But if you’re dreaming of that ultra-soft, plushy mesh feel, you might be left wanting a bit. Just to throw it out there – if you've ever worn the New Balance 990v2, you’ll know that their mesh is like a cloud. This isn’t quite that, but it's still good enough to get the job done.

The Comfort

2023 Nike Air Max 1 “Deep Royal”

How Comfortable Is The Air Max 1 “Deep Royal”?

Alright, so let's get real about comfort. These kicks rock a cushioning tech that's been around since, well, ages ago - think over 30 years. So, expecting them to feel like today's ultra-cushioned sneakers might leave you a bit surprised. They aren't super plush, and yeah, they do show their age a bit.

The midsole? It's more on the "I got your back but won't cuddle your feet" side. Not a whole lot of bounce with every step, but not every sneaker needs to feel like stepping on marshmallows. If you're someone who's more about that old-school, firmer feel, and not so into today's super squishy kicks, the Air Max 1 might just be your jam.

Can you rock these all day while you're out and about? Heck yeah! But, just being honest here, if you're chasing after that top-tier comfort, some of Nike's other retro-runners, like the Air Max 90, might be more up your alley. They've got a bit more of that cushy love.

Fit and Sizing

2023 Nike Air Max 1 “Deep Royal”

How Does The Air max 1 “Deep royal” fit ?

The Air Max 1 “Deep Royal” fits comfortably when going with your most common Nike size. I wouldn’t call it ‘roomy’, but it does seem to have a more generous toe-area in comparison to the ‘OG’ pairs such as the “Big Bubble” or “Anniversary” releases.

I personally have a slightly wider foot and prefer a more snug and secure fit when buying sneakers, so going with my usual size 12 works.

Under no circumstances would I recommend anyone going down a half-size in this shoe and those with narrow feet should stay going true-to-size. Wide-foot buyers may want to go a half-size up, considering Nike’s retro runners are notoriously narrow.

You can check out our complete Air Max 1 Fit and Sizing Guide where we share more sizing recommendations based on your individual foot type and preference.
