I’m sure there are some who don’t like the overall look of the shoe simply because it doesn’t fit their personal style, but you’ve got to admit this shoe is a bold work of art.

Initial Impressions:

Here are a few of my initial thoughts after unboxing this New Balance 998 “Festival Pack”. A full written review of this shoe will be posted after I’ve had more time to analyze the shoe.

  • When these originally dropped, I was surprised the design team over at New Balance created a 998 with so much flare. The eccentric design is so much different from what we’re traditionally used to seeing on this classic silhouette, but it looks so good.

  • I’m sure there are some who don’t like the overall look of the shoe simply because it doesn’t fit their personal style, but one thing they’ve got to admit is that this shoe is a bold work of art. With that being said, I’m a fan of Good Art!

  • As to be expected, the quality of the materials are top-notch. Not just the suede, but the patterned portions of the shoe, as well. They feel like they were made from quality textile swatches you’d find on a throw pillow or curtain. lol

  • I really think the addition of the bright yellow laces really set off the look of the shoe. Anything less, would have been uncivilized.

  • I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again….I wish New Balance would stop stuffing their shoes with paper. Too many times the paper causes a hump in the toe-box which is a deadly sin. Fortunately, this shoe didn’t get affected, but it does happen to a lot of pairs that I’ve come across.

Where To Buy:

If you’re interested in getting a pair of these 998s, YCMC.com has a few sizes available for sale at the time that I’m writing this post. They’re priced at retail ($179.99), but I believe you can get 10% off your first purchase if you sign-up to their mailing list.

how i purchased

I was able to purchase these sneakers from a smaller boutique of out Florida called, Fresh Rags. I wasn’t familiar with the store prior to purchase, but took a chance on them because they had the shoe available for $126 ($138 Shipped) during their New Year’s Day promotion.
