Sizing Guide: How Does The New Balance 1500 Fit?

Sizing Guide Disclaimer!

I would like to preface this sizing guide by saying that there is no “perfect shoe size” but rather a “size range” that works best for most people when it comes to sneakers. As you continue reading, understand that this “size range” assumption will serve as the foundation of my fit and sizing advice. Enjoy the article and I hope it helps!

HOW DOES THE 1500 FIT?

The New Balance 1500 fits snug at true-to-size.

Generally speaking, the New Balance 1500 fits a little snug at true-to-size due to the aggressive slope in the toe-box area of the shoe. For that reason, some may consider going a half-size up if they prefer a roomier fit, but continue reading for more tips based on your individual foot type and/or fit preference.

Sizing Tips

New Balance 1500 Fit and Sizing Guide

  • I usually wear a US11.5 in most New Balance shoes like the 990 models, but I prefer a US12 in the New Balance 1500. Even at this size, the 1500 fits snug and I could go up a half-size if I really wanted to. The sharp slope of the toe-box gives the New Balance 1500 a dope look, but it is also what makes this shoe fit more snug. Since I like to wear my shoe’s loosely laced, the US12 works perfectly. Another shoe with a similar fit profile is the New Balance 577 which is also snug when buying true-to-size.

  • If you consider yourself to have narrow feet, you should still go with your usual New Balance size. Since this model of New Balance has a lower toe-box height that other models, you’ll most likely notice that the shoe feels comfortable. If you happen to be in between sizes like me, go with your larger size.

  • Those with wider feet will most likely want to go a half-size up from your most common size. Although the toe-box isn’t as narrow as say a Nike runner, the sloped toe will most likely require you to go up the half-size to accommodate for wider foot. Even if you prefer a snug fit, I would still say go up a half-size to play it safe.

Wide-footers that are in-between sizes, may even want to go up a half-size from their usual larger size. For example, if you’re usually a 10.5/11, you may want to get a 11.5 in the New Balance 1500.

  • If you prefer as snug fit or like to wear your shoes loosely laced, then you should definitely go with your higher shoe size.

For example, I’m wear 11.5/12 and to get a snug fit, I’d buy a 12. The 11.5 would be too snug.

  • If you prefer as roomy fit or like to wear your shoes tightly laced, then you should definitely go a half-size up in the New Balance 1500, if possible.

In a pinch, you could get away with your normal size, but only if that’s your only option.

  • I’ve tried many of the Made in the US and UK models and the 1500 may be tied for most snug at true-to-size with the 577 model.

Other models like the 998 and 990 models are slightly roomier at true-to-size.

1500 FAQs

Answers To Common Questions

  • Although the New Balance 1500 is no longer marketed as a performance running shoe, the shoe’s running DNA makes it a great option for all-day wear. The shoe’s Encap midsole tech provides the near-perfect blend of cushioning and support which allows them to be a great grab-n-go shoe that can be worn on the weekends or even at the office.

  • Most New Balance 1500 releases offer an upper primarily comprised of rich panels of suede, mesh, and 3M accents. Occasionally, some models throw in leather panels in the mix for added visual interest.

  • If you’re rough on shoes, then cleaning shoes like the New Balance 1500 can be a bit challenging and tricky due to the delicacy of the suede and mesh. Fortunately, RESHOEVN8R offers amazing products like the Dry Suede Kit and Essential Shoe Cleaning Kit that provide everything you need to keep the suede and mesh clean without ruining the nap or texture of the shoe for a reasonable price.

  • If you’re into the “dad shoe” aesthetic, value comfort and don’t mind playing for quality, then the New Balance 1500 should definitely be on your radar or wishlist for upcoming pickups. Even at a retail price-point closer to $200, there aren’t many shoes that offer the same level of quality, comfort, and practicality all in one package.
